Adventure travelers seek a variety of activities, including sport, culture and nature experiences. For a standard sand-boarding itinerary, participants will expect a balance between intense physical activity, cultural experiences as well as the ability to relax in pristine natural settings. A traditional trip would begin with sandboarding early in the morning before the sun gets too hot, a break for lunch and rest, or possibility other activities in the area; and finally, continue sandboarding in the afternoon and early evening when it cools down. Travel between dunes can be via dune buggie vehicle or on foot.

Sandboarding is dependent on the presence of steep dunes (typically an incline greater than or equal to roughly 45 degrees.)
If a dune is particularly high, it is desirable to have a pick up at the bottom to return to the top.
Some hiking while sandboarding is inevitable; adequate preparation for desert conditions is recommended (water, sunscreen, etc).
Various levels of accommodation should be identified for each stop in order to cater to multiple demographics, from tented camps to high end hotels.
The technology for sandboards is still emerging; the best is borrowed from the snowboard industry, but limited by available local resources. The lowest common denominator is a slick-bottomed board with a binding system. Wax can be added before a ride to increase velocity.
Lay-down sandboarding is also possible; easier than stand-up sandboarding, and much like sledding on a snowhill.

The ability to conquer rarely visited dunes has strong appeal, especially experienced sand-boarders. Safety precautions and experienced guides are requirements and using the latest sandboard technology will be a draw for many clients. The ability to sandboard with local guides is also attractive as they tend to know the best drops are and how to easily navigate the area.

Still very much a niche sport, sandboarding tour operators are limited to some of the best known and biggest dunes in the world. Sandboarding is practiced across the world from Namibia to Canada to Argentina. Visit www.sandboard.com/locations/index.php for more information on locations.
